Beyond the Books It seems as if education and Judaism go together like pastrami on rye with a dollop of mustard. After all, we are the people of the book. That's never truer than in early May when several events celebrate Jewish education in the Atlanta area.
First, the central repository of local knowledge on Jewish education, the Center for Jewish Education and Experiences, recognized its Jewish Heritage Contest winners (in partnership with Torah Atlanta) and handed out its educator awards at Temple Emanu-El on May 4. Greater Atlanta Hadassah honored students with the group's 15th annual Chesed Awards on May 7 at Congregation B'nai Torah.
Finally, CJEe recognized its own staff and lay leaders for launching the organization 21 months earlier and for getting good results with the books — the financial kind. CJEe also reached a milestone: its first transfer from one president, Eliot Arnovitz, to another, Cheri Levitan. One lesson was clear at all of the events: It's nice to be recognized for hitting the books.
